about

Still troubled by Finn's unusually eerie Vessels three years before Thirteenth Rune, his 2009 CD thankfully offers no mercy or relief. Employing similar chilling slowcore folk, the hushed-voice Pittsburgh-er still welcomes you to his day-mare uneasiness. It's again set mostly to unsettling, parsimonious acoustic and spare electric, as if to unnerve you with furtive whispers rather than cries of anguish. Having previously compared him to Iron &Wine, Will Oldham, and especially Mark Kozelek, there's early Tim Buckley too, this time; it's a similar subliminal feeling of a chap going over the edge. Anyone can deem himself a mulish folkie. What Finn does is grab the guts of his upset soul, "Seeking vision through a veil of light," and serve it on your plate, raw.
